Facebook Rolls Out "Instant Articles" for iPhone Users
Facebook has rolled out its long-rumored “Instant Articles”, a feature designed to allow publishers to host stories and content directly on Facebook’s servers. Currently available to iPhone users only, publishers including The New York Times, National Geographic, Buzzfeed, The Guardian and BBC News will test this faster, more interactive experience with consumers. Toni Box comments, “I imagine it’s hard for publisher sites to give up their referral traffic,” but if valuable audience insights from Facebook remain accessible, “the ability to provide a better user experience, and an opportunity to further increase subscriptions/ad revenue,” may outweigh any anticipated cons of Instant Articles. We will be closely watching the feature’s rollout and responses from marketers and consumers.

Apple to Usher in New Era of Pay TV
Analysts predict that premium digital TV from Apple is just on the horizon, more specifically a virtual multichannel video programming service that would be priced in the ballpark of $40 to $50 a month. Other major players in pay TV are moving alongside this trend, Verizon’s acquisition of AOL being a sure sign of this. Advertisers are shifting their spend from traditional TV onto mobile, where media consumption most often happens in today’s day and age.
